This page explains how to join Thurles Toastmasters Club, the membership fees and the contents of your new member pack. Guests are always welcome at Thurles Toastmasters. You can visit the club several times before deciding if you wish to join. Read about the Benefits of Toastmasters, and what you'll learn by becoming a member from the District 71 Toastmasters website When you have decided to wish to join the Thurles club, talk to the Vice President Membership or Treasurer who will assist you to fill in the application form and what the fees are to join. When the club has accepted your application, your fees will be forwarded to Toastmasters International, and you will be formally voted in as a member of the club. What your membership fee pays forAt Thurles Toastmasters we charge €80 as an annual charge. This is to cover administration cost, new member kits and a Toastmasters mazagine monthly. This may be reduced for part of the year if you join late in the toastmasters year. We also cahrge a weekly fee of €5 to cover room hire and refreshments. What's in your New Member PackOnce you have joined the club, you will be given a New Member Pack which contains your first two Manuals (the Competent Communicator and Competent Leadership Manuals). You will also be assigned a Mentor if you wish. Your first speech project, an "IceBreaker" will be scheduled within the next couple of meetings. . The IceBreaker speech is a 4-6 minute speech introducing yourself to your fellow club members, and is usually your most memorable speech, because it is your first official speech at Toastmasters. Your mentor can help you prepare your Icebreaker, and give you tips on how to construct your notes and practise your delivery. Read the article "The Magic of Mentoring" from a recent issue of The Toastmaster Magazine for more information about successful mentoring relationships. You'll also be invited to assist with other duties when you're not presenting a formal speech, such as timekeeper or sergeant at arms, and will be asked to participate in table topics, during your first few meetings. But don't worry, we won't ask you to do anything you're not comfortable with. It does take time to get used to the Toastmasters way, so you can take your time and learn the ropes at your own pace. |
